Ideas prácticas para la mejor enseñanza de los diversos géneros literarios en tercer grado. In this presentation we will clarify all third grade language arts by literary genre. Teachers will receive genre cards an will have the opportunity to distinguish the student expectations by sections such as: vocabulary, facts and details, theme and genre, literary nonfiction, sensory language, media literacy, and inference and summarization. We will have diverse activities that will impact the bilingual teachers' instructional delivery. The session is intended to be a hands-on workshop in which materials will be given to teachers including: anchor charts, genre cards, foldables, journals, and poetry samples. As part of the journaling activities, participants will divide their journals in sections pertaining to diverse genres. Each journal section will begin with a genre card: literary nonfiction, expository text, Figure 19, etc. We will then analyze the diverse TEKS in each genre, so the teachers know what to focus on for each genre. Participants will have a clear picture of the TEKS delivery by literary genre. In each literary genre, participants will then be presented with diverse ideas and hands-on activities. The activities by genres are formatted in different methods: STAAR formatted questions, foldable, organizational charts, key words, Venn diagrams, etc. All activities have been successfully implemented with Bilingual and regular students at Andrew Jackson Elementary in McAllen Independent School District.
